What Now

In his ongoing efforts to seduce glam widow Erika Kirk, the Vice President of the United States JD Vance told a crowd gathered at Turning Point USA that “In the United States of America, you don’t have to apologize for being White anymore.”

Good to know. Not that anyone ever asked me to apologize for being White. I have at times put my foot in my mouth for saying a dumb White thing, and I have apologized for that and have made efforts to educate myself. But that’s what you do if you have any sense of ethics or humanity. We live in a racist country and the ideology of White Supremacy permeates everything in our culture so deeply most people, even the targets of racism themselves are not always aware of what dumb bigotry or bad ideas we hold in our head until someone points it out to us. I imagine JD has a lot of experience with people telling him in varying degrees of severity that his baby mouth has said some awful racist shit. He did not take that as an opportunity to improve himself, or so it seems based on everything we have seen so far.

Well, that caps a year of war crimes, violations of human rights, concentration camps. indefinite detention, deporting citizens, rising White Nationalism, and genocide. May the coming year fare better and see you all with hope and justice.
