Tax Gutting
The arguments made for putting stricter work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP presuppose that human beings don’t deserve health care by dint of their humanity. The assumption is that people are cheating the system and getting away with defrauding the means testing regime we’ve established for publicly subsidized health care. If you’re worried about such things, there are really only two consistent solutions: health care for all or healthcare for none. Republicans chose none. But their concerns over fraud are themselves a fraud. They just want to funnel money to their corporate paymasters— or to themselves, given how many members of Congress from both parties are millionaires. The fears of Medicaid fraud are for rubes like us who know the system is fucking us over, but somehow blame the migrant worker or the disabled when Jeff Bezos is sailing around on a $500 million yacht to his $20+ million wedding in Venice.
